If you’re after the most draw-biased driver of the year on a budget, this is your model. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who are willing to put their hands up and say, “Just give me a driver that helps me hit it straight”, the Wilson has a lot to offer.
That pan-shaped head creates the model’s forgiving traits. It may have the appearance of an offset driver from the 1990s, but if the tech works and keeps drives on the mown grass more often, then why not? It’s a sleek, attractive option – and a chunk cheaper than most of the competition this year.
We’re also big fans of the bullet-shaped head, which looks fast and forgiving at address, and how Cobra’s engineers have removed the ridge that ran around the perimeter of the CNC milled face on previous models. It tied second for fastest ball speed, was first and second at protecting ball speed and carry (within this category), and it was also our pro’s second-longest forgiving driver an impressive performance. The LTDx may be built on an improved titanium and carbon-fibre chassis, much like the last two Cobra drivers, but our test pro’s stats reveal it has moved on massively in terms of performance. But what’s really clever is Callaway building a touch of draw bias into this model. Its wide, stretched body with new matt black crown manages to look really desirable at address. It was our test pro’s longest forgiving driver by five yards (a significant amount at his swing speed), but it’s not just raw power with no forgiveness it tied second fastest in terms of ball speed and third best at protecting carry drop-off (nine yards or 3.2%), which is really beneficial when it comes to consistency. Within this category, the ST Max is outstanding.

That’s why we’re comfortable naming the Stealth Plus our best low-spin driver of 2022, an award we’ve never bestowed upon a single driver (be it low-spin, forgiving or draw biased) before.īased on the Max’s impressive performance, we really shouldn’t give up on titanium faces just yet. In anybody’s book, that’s outstanding across-the-board performance. The Plus was also flat-out best at protecting ball speed loss on off-centre hits, and second-best at minimising carry distance drop-offs. By 12 yards, it was the longest driver within the category (and also our longest overall driver by three yards).
